SearchWin is available for download as a Zip archive. It is provided as a 30 day completely functional "Try before you Buy" (Shareware) program. After the 30 day trial period, the program will no longer operate unless a registration key is purchased and entered. If the program expires, you may still enter the registration key - it is not necessary to download it again or reinstall it.
Primary download (Version 1.1.8) from searchwin.net click here size: 4.8MB
Alternate Download (Version 1.1.8) from
(Simtel update is usually a couple days behind this site)
Instructions: Download the zip file to a temporary folder (be sure to remember where you put it!) Extract the contents of the zip archive to that temporary folder. Double click Setup.exe to start the installation. Follow the instructions provided in the Setup program. You can choose the program installation folder as well as the Start Menu folder. The default program folder is: C:\Program Files\Searchwin. The default Start Menu folder is: Start > Programs > SearchWin.
There is NO update available for Ver 1.1.8. In addition to the new features, it is compiled with the newest Visual Basic service pack (SP6) and therefore requires the entire installation to work correctly.
Window 95 Users: you may get an error during setup - it is safe to ignore the error, SearchWin installs correctly. This error is related to the HTML help system. Microsoft no longer supports or provides updates for this version of windows. You can correct the error by installing or reinstalling Internet Explorer Version 4 or newer.
IF you need to download the previous version
update (1.1.6) that is still available for download
here.
There are too many changes to the new version of SearchWin to supply a simple update. It is necessary to download & reinstall the program to upgrade to the current version. IMPORTANT: You should un-reinstall the old version before installing the new. If you install a new version over an existing version the files may not update correctly (Installing over top of an existing version may work - but I can't guarantee it). You should restart your system after uninstalling SearchWin because any files 'in use' will not be deleted until the system is restarted.
Program removal (Version 1.0.2 or later): Use Add or Remove Program in the Control Panel OR choose Uninstall from SearchWin's Start menu folder. You can optionally choose to remove all user customization files. Choosing this option will permanently delete these files and should only be chosen if you do not intend to reinstall SearchWin.
Program removal (Version before 1.0.2): If you decide to remove SearchWin, use Add or Remove Programs in Windows Control Panel. Note: program removal does not delete user specific files (e.g., you custom search lists). These can safely be delete if you do not want to continue using SearchWin. These files are located in:
NT based systems: C:\Documents and Settings\Your Windows Profile Name\Application Data\SearchWin
Win 9x based systems: C:\Windows\Profiles\Your Windows Profile Name\Application Data\SearchWin
These files will exist in every profile from which SearchWin was run. It is safe to delete the entire folder after uninstalling SearchWin.
If your system does not use profiles, your user files will be located in SearchWin's Program installation folder.
