SearchWin Extends your ability to search for files. Windows native find file allows only a single 'search term' and does not allow logical relationships 1. SearchWin's ability to use multiple search terms and specify logical relationships between those terms can greatly enhance finding the particular file you are looking for. SearchWin provides use of multiple search terms for both file name and file content searches. You can search for both file name criteria and file content criteria with a single search.
SearchWin is fast. Regardless of the number of search terms,
only a single pass through the file system is required. With the native find
file, you can 'sort of' simulate multiple search terms by using multiple file
specifications; find file takes much longer as it will make a pass through the
file system for each file specifications.
Example: Windows XP-Pro running on Athlon 1800+ system with 512Mb memory. Disk contains: 89,000 files, 6,700 folders occupying 11.3 GB of disk space.

SearchWin installs as a Windows Explorer Find File Extension and can be accessed from the Start > Find menu (Win 95/98) or from Explorer's View >Toolbar menu. Once it has been selected in the Toolbar menu, it will be available as a "Button" on the Explorer Toolbar. With Win2K/XP (or Win9x with IE Ver 5 or greater) systems, it can also be enabled for the Explorer Search window in the same manner (View > Toolbar).
SearchWin is a multi-user program. If your computer is configured to use 'profiles', i.e., each user has their own login name, each users options settings are independent.
SearchWin is an active shell extension. Any changes made to files (add, delete, rename) in Explorer are automatically reflected in the search results list.
SearchWin can provide extended file information just by holding the mouse over a file name in the "found file" list. For text based files, you see the actual content of the file, for images you see a thumbnail image. Extended information is provided for a variety of common file types.
1 - Index Server for NT based systems does provide Boolean search capability, however, it is more limited than SearchWin.
